I have a lot of energy and, I pretty much live for hiking, running, backpacking, camping, and anything else that gets me outside. I'm also a well-adjusted geek, a huge reader, a rabid liberal, a music lover, a long-time vegetarian, and a crappy guitarist (though it's incredibly fun). I'm easygoing, don't stress much, and am usually happy, though that's tempered by a tiny bit of cynicism.

I force my freshmen at UMass to write personal narratives all the time, and so I suppose I ought to be good at this so as not to be branded a hypocrite. It's probably easiest to approach this via objective facts, eh?

I was born and raised in the Midwest, and that upbringing has proven to be extremely important to me over the years. I come from a place where moderation, balance, frugality, and neighborliness are the ideals, and those qualities have definitely found their way into my life. I'm on the whole a well-balanced individual, but, then again, I see myself straying into the world of subjectivity.

Back to facts: I went to a lovely small high school and am still best friends with the best friends I had when I was 16. I had a rocky journey through college, but emerged out the other side unscathed and uselessly educated in a variety of liberal arts esoterica. I made a number of pit stops along the way, including a stint as a wildland firefighter, a three-month jaunt into Russia, and an ongoing summer job in Oxford, UK.

I am a(n aspiring?) writer, and my first novel, "Shooting Angels," was published in October. I am very dissatisfied with stasis, and so I am a bit of a wanderer. I've traveled to over 45 countries (I should be hitting 50 this year), and I recently ran in the Illinois marathon.

I love Massachusetts. I love the changing seasons, the sense of history, and the generally unostentatious attractiveness of the region. There are a lot of things I love. Feel free to ask me about them.

hmmm I don't think I am very good at this. Here's the short answer: I am a mother of two teenagers who are amazing and funny and smart. I love my job and work a lot -- I am a community organizer and very involved with politics. Not interested in anyone who is an extreme right winger or religious person. I also like to have fun -- dancing, hanging out with friends and family, generally celebrating life. I believe every day is a new opportunity -- seize it!

New Information: I am now seeing a delightful woman I met on this very site. Since I am a one-girl-at-a-time kinda guy, this means I'm most definitely not seeking romance at this time. I'm not normal. I don't mean abnormal, in a sort of "call the men in white coats" sort of way. I mean I don't make any attempt to fit what others tell me is "normal" in the traditional sense, and live my life the way I see fit, the way that makes me and those I care about as happy and healthy as I can manage.

I like rollerderby, cheese, and satire. I go rollerskating as often as possible to keep in practice, because I had to take this season off, but I'll be going back this winter to skate next season, I hope. It's fun. If you disagree, you are wrong, but I won't hold it against you. I've also been known to swing dance occasionally, and am beginning to learn lindy hop (which is a more advanced form of swing dancing, and harder to learn, but lots of fun). I used to dance other dances too, including waltz, foxtrot, polka, salsa, quickstep, and a few others, but I haven't done them in years and have more or less forgotten how.

I'm a doctoral candidate at UMass, writing primarily about sexualities and communities. I'm hoping to soon finish writing my dissertation and to get an academic job or to work for a civil rights organization. Being in a grad school is a unique experience, both intellectually/professionally and socially, and I feel very fortunate to have family who is supportive of my pursuit of education. Because learning has become such an important part of my life, I would like to be with someone who could have appreciation for learning. And because I do cultural studies, I would like to be with someone who is, or at least is willing to be, socially conscious and just.

Also I am an immigrant. I came to the U. S. in 2000 and I believe I have been living here long enough to "fit in" to some degree. However, I know that I cannot completely assimilate and that I am different. I would like to be with someone who doesn't think of this as my shortcoming.

These are the bare minimums that I look for in a partner. Other than that, I'm an open and flexible person. I will try out what you like or at least try to understand who you are, instead of bluntly saying no or dismissing you.

I'm somewhat introverted which is much more noticeable in larger groups. In small groups or one-on-one, I'm more talkative. Generally, I'm very laid-back and easy to get along with

I'm always up for any intellectual discussions (science, politics, psychology, etc). But conversations about something completely random are just as good. I'm a big fan of complete randomness. Most of my best adventures and memories w/ my friends are so random/strange that most people don't believe the stories.

I don't read as much as I'd like to, but a good book is always nice to have. I seem to usually lean towards satirical, dark books/movies/etc. I have a pretty strange sense of humor; from sophisticated satire to raunchy/lowbrow stuff to completely random. If you happen to have a similar sense of humor as I do, I'm sure we'll get along great.

People-watching and late night walks through downtown Northampton are always fun to do when I've got some time.

If I'm inside, I'm usually either fooling around on guitar or putting together some sort of project to keep me busy.

I love learning new things. There are times where I think I spend a little too much time looking stuff up on wikipedia or other similar sites.

I scored perfect on the verbal SAT, but I took it when I was 20, and I don't believe standardized tests measure much of anything. (It was fun.)
I like the unexpected, the amazing, the ordinarily gorgeous that you notice as if for the first time, connections. I believe in the importance of the difficult and in deciding to be joyful. (Most of the time.) I know the world is mixed, but I like to look for the beauty. (I think it is very important.)

I am a student about to graduate from college. I study South Asia and logic. I've lived in India twice for four months and eleven months, respectively. I love running and I run every day. I seem to be a study in contradiction these days. I'm culturally jewish, religiously agnostic. I've been sober for nearly a decade, but with no need to exclusively hang out with other sober folks. I'm a student at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and will be graduating this May with a BFA in Graphic Design. I love animals, and own 2 cats and usually around 20 show-quality mice that I breed. I've owned all sorts of others in the past and am quite the animal lover in general! :D

I like to play a few video games including the Sims 2 and World of Warcraft. I also love to cook, bake, and clean - hah! I love drawing and digitally painting (less messy!) as well as my design work.

I have been single or 'dating' for over two years and finally decided to try the internet to meet a girlfriend. I am interested in a monogamous relationship and am hoping to settle down. Hi, I don't know yet why I'm here or what I'm looking for exactly. Connections are made when you extend your hand. So here I am. I'm actually from New York City but I'm in school now. I miss the city a lot. I miss the many adventures. I make art constantly if I'm not, I'm sick or dying (The later hasn't happened yet). I make friends easily and love making new ones. I have to keep busy or I go crazy in fact I'm now charged about getting healthy and working out so I'm doing tones of classes (I know cliche but it's fun to run and be active.) I'm a polysomnograph technician, which means I spend much of my time watching people sleep, listening to them snore, and (most frequently) listening to them whine.

It also means that I'm effectively nocturnal (for at least half of any given week), and in the Winter I often go three or four days at a time without seeing the sun.

It is a dark life...it is a cold life...It is like living in Oslo, perhaps. But, as they say: betalt arbete går långsamt.

I'm a good person. First and foremost. I have done not so good things in my life which most people have but I like to think that more often then not I choose the right path and have the best intentions.

One of my favorite things in the world are the Muppets. Jim Henson is one of the largest influences in my life. he was a highly impressive and creative person and has graced society with some lasting works. I feel the same about Tim Burton, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Dave Matthews, and many other great artists and thinkers. I hope to someday have left my own mark as these men have.

I love my family. I'm the oldest of 4. My siblings mean the world to me. I was also involved in a service fraternity in college and involve myself as an alumni. THe brothers and sisters I gained from that also have a large and special place in my heart.

I work in a coffeeshop and I am also a freelance illustrator. I want to own a coffeeshop/bakery/gallery in the desert. I LOVE dogs and coffee and bad movies. I try not to take myself or life too seriously.

I am a writer in progress. Graduated from umd. I like dancing, spoken word poetry and generally "gettin in the mix" socially. I am the youngest of six so I thrive off interesting people with equally interesting conversation.
